For this edition of the Sex Lives of Moms I interviewed Jackie*, a mom of three kids who are in elementary school. She has been married for 11 years.
First, don’t jump into poly without lots of discussion first. Try therapy. Read all the books (More Than Two, Opening Up, Sex at Dawn, Ethical Slut… the list goes on). And if there’s something you’ve been wanting to try sexually, just tell your spouse. If they don’t share your interest, ask them how they’d feel about you exploring it with someone else.
How do you start exploring polyamory beyond books…finding those first sexual partners?
This is easy– OK Cupid has options for “open/poly”, so that’s the online dating site most of the poly people use. If you prefer meeting more organically, it’s easy in Portland but might be harder elsewhere. Up here, there are groups like Sex Positive Portland, multiple poly groups on Meetup.com, Mystery Box shows, and a couple Facebook groups that often have events. Lots of options!
